Welcome to the website of the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences at Emory University School of Medicine. For more than 80 years, Emory Obstetrician-Gynecologists have gained local, national, and international recognition by providing state-of-the-art clinical care, fostering a culture of investigative basic and translational inquiry, leading and participating in national and international organizations, authoring original research and textbooks, chairing and serving on NIH (National Institutes of Health) study sections and panels,  and teaching, training, and mentoring the next generation of clinicians and clinical scholars.

The Department has a rich history of excellence in education, clinical care, and clinical, translational, and basic science research. In 2009 the Department ranked among the top women's health care services in the annual U.S. News and World Report survey and placed 13th among medical school departments of Obstetrics and Gynecology in NIH-sponsored research funding. Our residency program has trained over 494 obstetricians-gynecologists who have practice throughout the United States.

Our faculty and staff are committed to the compassionate delivery of comprehensive, quality health care to all patients.   From private patients, to patients referred by local physicians, to the medically-indigent women of Atlanta, providing women access to high quality and culturally-sensitive health care continues to be a primary focus of the Department.

The Department practices at sites across Atlanta including neighborhood-based clinics which provide obstetrical care to women in areas traditionally underserved.  Patients with more complex medical problems are seen in our offices within Grady Memorial Hospital.

Our University Practice at The Emory Clinic offers a full spectrum of women's health services in a private-practice setting.

Annually, more than 100 medical students from the Emory University School of Medicine receive their introduction to women's health care on our gynecologic and obstetrical services.  They learn how to perform basic care to women of all ages, from adolescence to menopause and beyond, under the guidance and mentorship of faculty who are dedicated to teaching medical students.

We offer general and specialty care for women at Emory’s hospitals, Emory University Hospital and Emory University Hospital Midtown, Grady Memorial Hospital, and the VA Medical Center and at ambulatory sites on the campus of Emory University, in Midtown Atlanta, and at Grady.

We are very proud to have one of the premier research programs in women’s health in the country. Under the direction of Robert N. Taylor, MD, PhD, The Center for Human Uterine Biology (HUB) engages in a broad spectrum of basic and translational research with a special focus on implantation biology.  In collaboration with other faculty members in the Department and beyond, including the Atlanta Center for Translational Science and Investigation (ACTSI), the Division of Research undertakes clinical and basic research that includes traditional domains in gynecology and obstetrics including hormone action, causes and treatments for infertility, pathogenesis of ovarian, endometrial, and breast cancer, and clinical trials for sexually-transmitted infectious diseases as well as cutting-edge interdisciplinary research in reproductive neurobiology. Our motto and our goal is to “harness the promise of molecular medicine for women’s and reproductive health.”

The Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics at Emory is dedicated to improving the health of women in the greater Atlanta region and beyond. On this website, you will find more about our accomplishments, our diverse and talented faculty, and our clinical, educational and research programs.
