Dr. Horowitz is the Willaford Ransom Leach Professor of Gynecology and Obstetrics, division director of Gynecologic Oncology, and a member of the Winship Cancer Institute. He is vice chair of clinical affairs of the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics. He has been a member of the Emory faculty since 1992. He is associate section chief of the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics at Emory University Hospital and The Emory Clinic. In addition to his departmental responsibilities, in September of 2004, Dr. Horowitz was appointed Associate Director of The Emory Clinic and Assistant Dean of Clinical Affairs in the Emory University School of Medicine.  Dr. Horowitz is the Chief Medical Officer at Emory University Hospital.

Dr. Horowitz is a member of the Board of Directors of The Emory Clinic as well as a member of the Clinical Quality Performance Committee and Clinic Management Group. He is chairman of the Emory University Hospital Medical Practice Committee and a member of the Medical Advisory Committee. He is also a member of the Winship Cancer Institute’s Program Growth Internal Advisory Committee. After receiving his BA in biology from the University of Rochester in 1976, Dr. Horowitz received his MD from Baylor College of Medicine in 1980, where he also completed residency training. He was administrative chief resident in obstetrics and gynecology at Baylor from 1983 to 1984. From 1985 to 1987, he was a fellow in gynecologic oncology at Johns Hopkins University. In June of 2004 Dr. Horowitz completed a Masters degree in health care management at the Harvard University School of Public Health in Boston, MA.

Dr. Horowitz is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology, with subspecialty certification in gynecologic oncology. In 1997, the Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics awarded Dr. Horowitz its Excellence in Teaching Award. His research interests focus on the epidemiology of cervical cancer and etiology of ovarian cancer. As a member of collaborative clinical trial groups such as the Gynecologic Oncology Group he has access to a variety of clinical trials sponsored by the National Institutes of Health.
