The mission of the Jane Fonda Center is to advance scientific knowledge about adolescence with an emphasis on adolescent reproductive health. It seeks to disseminate information and strategies for risk reduction and healthy transitions to adulthood.
To carry out its mission, the Center engages in activities that have the potential for creating needed social change and enhancing service delivery. These activities include education and training, research, evaluation, policy development, as well as program and materials development. Specialized adolescent patient care is carried out through contractual arrangements between Emory University and Grady Health System and is centered in the Grady Hospital Teen Services Program.
The social, emotional, physical, and psychological transitions experienced by youth throughout the pubertal years have the power to influence attitudes and patterns of behavior throughout life. Less attention has been paid to the beginning of the reproductive life span than to the middle childbearing years and to menopausal transitions. The Jane Fonda Center is addressing this gap.
Social and Institutional Change
The Jane Fonda Center relies on national, state, and local relationships to enhance its work and carry out its mission. The Center is not a source of funding and does not give contracts or grants. However, as part of achieving its mission, it works with others to obtain funds for efforts that cooperatively support the goals and objectives of the Jane Fonda Center.
The Center has special relationships with the Teen Services Program at Grady Memorial Hospital and the Georgia Campaign for Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention in Atlanta, Georgia.
