Program Overview Letter from the Chair Educational Objectives Obligations Hospitals Residents Resident News Resident Research Day RRD general description Application Info |
A recent addition to the VA Medical Center added 325,000 square feet of new space and upgraded many existing service areas. This expansion includes three new intensive care units, three additional operating rooms and a greatly expanded research space. Other improvements include a new cardiac catheterization laboratory, noninvasive diagnostic cardiology equipment, a second CT scanner, a new MRI unit, two linear accelerators for radiation therapy, a new lithotriptor, and all new x-ray equipment. Much of this technology surpasses resources available in most Atlanta-area hospitals. The Emory Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics provides the full range of services to about 80 patients each week at the VA Medical Center, from annual examinations to both surgical and nonsurgical gyn complaints. The department staffs a Gynecology Clinic two full days each week in addition to providing gyn surgical services one-half day per week through state of the art surgical facilities and a highly trained staff. Emory faculty physicians work with fourth-year residents and a nurse practitioner who serves as a liaison between gyn services and a Women's Wellness Clinic. New computer technology at the VA provides a highly efficient database for patient diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up. |
