The Expanded Role workshop is a weeklong workshop provided by the Emory University
Regional Training Center under the Georgia Family Planning Program. This workshop
provides training in minimum competence for Public Health Registered Nurses whose
roles and duties have expanded into other major areas of women's health outside of
the registered nurse's normal day-to-day duties. The Expanded Role workshop is
focused primarily on four different areas:
- Contraceptive Technology Level I
- Gynecological Problems
- Breast Health
- Documentation in Family Planning
Contraceptive Technology is a two-day course, which is designed to assist the

helping clients choose a method of birth control. This course for nurses details

informed consent.
Gynecological Problems is a one-day course, which is designed to assist the
nurse to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to provide comprehensive
management and referral of common gynecological problems.
Breast Health is a one-day course, which is designed to assist nurses to

breast, to evaluate results, and to distinguish normal from abnormal findings.
Documentation in Family Planning is a one-day course, which assists nurses
to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to use the S.O.A.P. method of
